In a mission, your character is temporarily hired to solve a problem for an organization (e.g. your home nation, the Grand Duchy of Jeuno), and you will be compensated accordingly. The specific content of missions ranges from odd jobs to top-secret operations. With higher levels come increased trust and the opportunity to undertake important missions with increasing rewards and stakes.

Rank in itself doesn't really show you as a competent player, but having a Rank that is far below your job level tends to discourage people from including you in events. It is wise to do missions as you can. Rank also affects how long signet will last.

Missions are have four categories:

• Nation Rank? In thesee missons, you are asked to solve a problem for your home nation. Upon completion of a set of missions you will gain rank, which will be posted next to your name when you are searched.
• Rise of the Zilart? These missions are accessible after attaining Rank 6 in your home nation. Rise of the Zilart missions are initiated from Norg?, but do not contribute to your Nation Rank?.
• Chains of Promathia These mission are primarly initiated on behalf of the Grand Duchy of Jeuno, and do not contribute to your Nation Rank?.
• Treasures of Aht Urhgan? In these missions, you undertake tasks for the Empire of Aht Urhgan.
